Three Ways to Help Your Depression

Uplift

Depression is no laughing matter. If you are one of the 40 million adults in the United States who suffers from it, then you know this already. Antidepressants can help with some of the symptoms, but they don’t always help with everything. Find other ways to uplift yourself so that you can start feeling back to normal soon.

Exercise

You might not love the idea, but exercise really does help your mental state. It gets your blood flowing and your heart pumping, pushing positive endorphins to your brain and boosting your happiness chemicals. Find an exercise routine that you find fun, whether that’s yoga, step aerobics or swimming laps.

Recreational Cannabis

The stigma of cannabis is (finally) changing in the United States. If you are comfortable doing so, try smoking marijuana when you are depressed. Studies are beginning to prove that it can actually help those who suffer from depression or anxiety. However, PLEASE research the legalities in your state before partaking, since it is still a federal crime.

Volunteer

It’s true that you feel better when you help your fellow human. Find a volunteer organization that you are passionate about and begin donating your time. Not only will staying busy keep your mind off of your worries, but you will go to bed at night feeling like you made a difference.
Seeking help for your depression is a big step in feeling better. If your medication is only doing part of the job, take steps on your own to help yourself.
